Citizens of Bourne became preservation conscious when the Briggs-McDermott House was scheduled for demolition in May of 1979. BSHP successfully restored the house to reflect the 1840-1910 period and were able to get it recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our mission is to save architecturally and historically distinguished places, to stimulate restoration and maintenance of such places and to educate and enrich the public.
Built circa 1800, the Briggs-McDermott house is located on Sandwich Road in Bourne village. The property consists of the house along with the Alonzo Booth Blacksmith Shop and the Alan Green Carriage House.
