Welcome

Medical Weight Loss

Welcome to Upper Cape Weight Loss, where we understand that achieving lasting weight loss is not just about dieting and exercise – it's about hormones and lifestyle. As a nurse practitioner-led weight loss center, we specialize in addressing the unique factors that can impact your weight and overall well-being.

Weight loss medications suppress your appetite and promote a sense of fullness leading to a natural decrease in caloric intake.  This is a key factor in weight loss. Semaglutide is often prescribed as part of a comprehensive weight management plan including lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.

Medications

Semaglutide

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 (glucagon like peptide) receptor antagonist. This medication mimics the natural GLP-1 hormone released after eating. It prompts the body to produce more insulin, which lowers blood sugar and makes you feel full.

Semaglutide is administered weekly by subcutaneous injection.

In combination with a low carbohydrate and high protein nutrition plan, studies show that patients lose about 15% of their body weight over a 10- to 15-month period.

Side effects are minimal and can be managed by staying hydrated, eating small, frequent meals and avoiding fried or greasy meals which can be difficult to digest.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is  unique because it is a GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide)  AND GLP-1(glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist.  This medication helps control appetite, calorie intake, and signals to the brain that you’re full — so you eat less.

Tirzepatide is a once-weekly injection.

In combination with a low carbohydrate and high protein nutrition plan, studies show that those treated with tirzepatide had an average weight loss of 15% to 20% of their starting body weight over 72 weeks (about 16.5 months).

Tirzepatide is usually well-tolerated, but may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Julie Dateo RN, MSN
Adult Certified Nurse Practitioner
Nurse Practitioner in Emergency, Home, and Hospital Medicine

My career began at Beth Israel Medical Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) working as a floor nurse in medicine/telemetry unit in 1994 until moving into the Emergency Department in 2001. For the next ten years, I had a great job with awesome colleagues, working as a triage, trauma, and resource nurse helping people in need. Upon graduating with a Master’s Degree from Boston College in 2011, I transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, working as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner.  I continue to work in Emergency Medicine at MGH and am grateful to be a part of such an intelligent, prestigious, and caring team!

As the founder and clinician at Upper Cape Weight Loss,

I believe achieving lasting weight loss is not just about dieting and exercise – it's also about hormones and lifestyle.  Opening a weight loss clinic, allows me to focus on taking a proactive and preventive focus to address the root causes of health issues and improve overall well-being. For the last twenty-five years, my career has focused on emergency and urgent care, a reactive approach. I treat many chronic conditions, co-morbidities, and complications that could be avoided!

The science is behind the medicine! A healthy diet and exercise with the added boost of weight loss medications is a proven way to lose weight.

At Upper Cape Weight Loss, I’m committed to advocate and help educate you to ensure a successful weight loss journey.

Client Stories

Like most working woman balancing life and family in their late 40s/early 50s, I have been working twice as hard to lose even the littlest bit of weight. When it came  time for my yearly physical with my PCP, I mentioned my concern to her. She noted by body mass index(BMI) was 27 which is considered overweight, but not obese. M blood pressure was above normal limits and my blood work revealed elevated cholesterol levels.  She referred me to a weight center to help. The referral was rejected because my BMI was not high enough!  I mentioned by disappointment to a friend and she told me about her fantastic experience working with Julie Dateo, NP, who owns Upper Cape Weight Loss.  I contacted Julie and it was the best thing I could have done for myself! My entire experience has been amazingly positive. From the initial intake appointment to her frequent check-ins.  I feel as if I am her only client. She is empathetic, kind, and knowledgeable.  It is evident that Julie believes weight loss promotes a healthier lifestyle and she is committed to helping her clients make lasting changes.  I have been working with Julie for 1 months  and have already lost 9lbs and my blood pressure is within normal limits.  I have more energy and sleep better.  I could never thank Julie enough for helping me with the kickstart I needed to take control of my health. I feel empowered to make lasting changes in my life that will not only add years to my life but life to my years!
