Cape Cod Chamber Announces Plans for 16th Annual Quahog Day

Cape Codders will usher in summer with the 16th Annual Quahog Day ceremony on June 20th from 12 – 2 PM. The event will take place at The Chart Room overlooking the picturesque Cataumet Marina. WBZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Eric Fisher will once again emcee this year’s festivities.

Celebrated on the first day of summer each year since 2009, Quahog Day has become a rite of passage into the glorious summer season for Cape Codders. The Cape’s beloved mascot, Doug the Quahog, will give his much-anticipated prediction for how many beach days lie ahead. Doug will whisper his forecast to Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Niedzwiecki, who will translate it for the masses.

“Doug was a little off his game last year, but he’s looking forward to redeeming himself and flexing his meteorological muscle,” said Niedzwiecki. “Quahog Day is a great opportunity to showcase just how special Cape Cod is, and who better to represent all the Cape has to offer than Doug the Quahog.”

This event is free and open to all. Guests can enjoy the stunning views of the marina while enjoying food and drink from The Chart Room menu, including the restaurant’s world-famous mudslides. Limited-edition Quahog Day T-shirts, designed by a Cape Cod Regional Technical High School student, will be on sale.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this fun event for the second consecutive year,” said Fisher. Fisher, who anchors weather segments weeknights on CBS Boston's WBZ-TV News and is a frequent contributor to CBS News, knows just how unpredictable weather can be in the region. “Last summer’s weather was less than desirable, but I expect Doug will have a more accurate prediction for this year. As someone who spends a lot of time on the Cape, I’m as invested in the sunshine as anyone.”
